The qualified valuator's experience, knowledge of valuation standards, techniques, procedures and principles will pay large dividends. The payoff will be a supportable and believable estimate of fair market value for purposes of equitable distribution. In selecting the "right" valuator, a business owner or spouse needs their attorney's guidance. The valuator in a divorce situation has a very strong likelihood of being called upon to testify, therefore, it is critical the selected valuator be capable of delivering a message which is easily and clearly understood.
